Magnavox MWD2205
A Magnavox DVD/CD player with VHS recorder. Its manual clearly separates the shared VHS-capable A/V outputs from DVD-only S-video, component and digital-audio connections.

Separate the tape and disc tests
The owner's manual calls this a DVD/CD player with video cassette recorder. That is not a DVD recorder specification. Ask for independent demonstrations of tape transport and disc playback.
Check the actual rear label for MWD2205. A marketplace title containing a related Magnavox or Sylvania name does not establish that every connector or accessory is the same.
Choose the shared output for VHS
The manual says the COAXIAL, DVD AUDIO OUT, S-VIDEO OUT and COMPONENT VIDEO OUT connectors are useful only in DVD mode. Use the shared DVD/VCR audio/video connections to assess tape playback. Composite video does not carry sound; connect the matching audio cables for the demonstration.
NB129UD / NB179UD appear in the supplied remote list. Ask the seller to demonstrate menu and timer operation with the actual included remote; that list does not validate every aftermarket listing.
General setup and safety checks
If DVD plays but VHS does not appear, check deck mode, TV input and the selected output connection. For recording, verify the chosen external input or documented source and a cassette with recording enabled.
Persistent tape damage or abnormal loading warrants service. Keep the cover closed and do not apply liquids through the cassette opening.
Not verified — no claim is made
- Aftermarket remote interchangeability and current accessory stock are unverified.
